Where did you learn to swim?
I taught myself how to swim in the swimming pool, sea and lake. Diving was always a favourite of mine. My Father was a keen diver and taught me how to dive. He dived off 10 metre diving boards while living in the UK. I dive off the bank!
Why did you become a teacher with KSC?
I was approached to become a teacher with KSC and couldn’t say no given I was there while my son attended his swim lesson. I didn’t think I had the skillset but thanks to the training and support found myself well able. I find it hugely rewarding to see the progress the kids make each week, and also feel very fortunate to work with a wonderful team of teachers.

I competed in the Kinvara Mother’s sea Gala 2024 and was delighted to have made it to the other side. I have also been known to impress my son’s friends with the odd backflip!

Where did you learn to swim?
I was lucky enough to grow up across the road from Ennis pool so learnt to swim there. A sea swim was non negotiable when we were kids with my Dad calling us a ‘shower of wimpos’ if we ever had second thoughts. The ‘ West Coast Coolers’ were torture at times but now I am ever grateful for the love of the sea he instilled in us.
Why did you become a teacher with KSC?
I became a teacher with KSC to pass on the gift it is to enjoy all the benefits of being able to swim. As we are blessed to be living so close to the ocean I believe it is a life skill also. KSC is a fun environment for the children to learn with their pals and it’s a privelage to be part of the Club
Swimming has given me many amazing experiences over the years. I was competitive for a time and my greatest achievement was probably representing Munster at the Interpros.
Any other interesting swimming related facts/ achievements about you?
Being confident in the water has brought me scuba diving in tropical waters, swimming with whale sharks and even into the Guinness Book of records- for the most number of surfers on standing on a wave at the one time!! Swimming across Galway Bay for Cancer Care West was an Open Water highlight and I hope to get across again this year.

Pride in Progress: I take pride in seeing children grow stronger and safer as swimmers, and some even go on to become lifeguards, swim teachers, or instructors. It brings me great joy to know they continue to enjoy swimming as young people and adults.
